6 hour workshop // 10am - 4:30pm // Instructor: Danielle Elsener + Cassandra Belanger // Cost: £125
This workshop is a follow on from the Fitting Masterclass. We've been listening to your feedback, and this is one of the topics you really wanted to cover. So we've created this workshop just for you.
About This Workshop
If you've ever dreamed of designing and making your own clothes from scratch, one of the vital skills you'll need to learn is pattern cutting. This is the art of creating a flat pattern based on a design and a set of body measurements.
In this 6 hour workshop, led by Zero Waste Pattern Cutters Danielle Elsener and Cassandra Belanger, we'll be introducing you to the basics of pattern cutting, drafting individual designs from a pattern block in a step-by-step demonstration. Students will then run through this worked example themselves using a scaled down version. The idea is that within 6 hours we'll give you the confidence to go home and draft a basic top pattern using your own unique measurements, setting you on a journey into designing your own well-fitting clothes.
Our demonstration of basic pattern cutting will include techniques such as drafting sleeve details; adding seam allowance; truing and adding notches; grainlines; and fabric considerations for making a toile. We will also be covering some of the basic tools regularly used in pattern cutting.
Note: You must have a basic understanding of garment construction for this course. If you've taken any of our beginner Making Clothes or similar courses, then you will be fine. If you’ve taken our Fitting Masterclass we recommend brining your pattern blocks to work from.
